Hand engraving on Knives & firearms. 24k gold inlays, hunting scenes
Welcome to the Art of Engraving by EngravingArts, Adone Galleries.
During the Victorian era engraved articles were in abundance. These ranged from beautiful hand engraved
time pieces to cigarette cases. Engravers displayed their artistic skills not only on firearms and sword hilts but also
Silver and gold flask's and all forms of jewelry were a regular demand.
Copper plate and wood engraving played an important role in the production
of art prints and was commonly used throughout literature for the purpose of pictorial representations in the
print industry.
However in later years the popularity diminished due to mechanical engineering in our industrial society.
This of course reduced overall hand engraving while limiting it to a small
number of articles. Guns and knives have become the medium of choice. Although, jewelry is still hand engraved
today it is not general knowledge that in most cases what is seen in jewelry are in fact not original engravings but
casted representations. In many cases these were formed / cast from crudely carved wax models for multiple reproduction purposes. Bear in mind that in some circumstances the work may appear to be
hand engraved on the final item when in fact it is nothing more than a casting and if visually measured against a true
quality engraving side by side, one will clearly see the radical differences in quality.
Is it any wonder that prestigious gun and knife owners, collectors seek
out the finest engravers to embellish their favored possessions.
Today's master engraver's have transformed the craft into art and never before in history have
we reached such plateaus in near perfection. Gold inlays that are richly detailed, fine shading and gradual tonal
ranges creating more depth than ever before. Near photographic realism
is now being achieved by top level engravers.
So much thanks must be placed on masters such as Firmo Fracassi without whom
the best standards would not have been realized.
All in all there now is new life in and around firearm, knife, jewelry arts and is now being
appreciated and sought after as never before.
A good side lock rifle or shotgun engraving may be had at 150 hours of labor,
600 to 1,000 hours will produce exquisite work,
above 1,000 hours we see the absolute finest of work on
firearms that may cost as much as $200,000 This is art in it's finest form in
regards to metal decorations.
